I own an advertising specialty company - now in our 44th year I am happy to report - and worked in the industry for many years prior to establishing my own firm. We are now semi-retired and I am selling many of our unusual advertising samples via eBay. Here is a beautiful 16 ounce tankard in high-gloss black featuring the design for L.I.U. The design is actually etched into the ceramic material creating a somewhat 3-D effect. Most striking. This is a salesman sample I found among my many boxes of such items. The sticker on the bottom reads - "WICO". That stood for a firm called the Waterloo Idea Company, located in Waterloo, Iowa. While there are no markings that say "Made in the U.S.A.", most of WICO's goods were. Actually, there are no markings at all to indicate country of origin, but I really believe it is domestic manufactured. I am certain that it was decorated here. As I did not sell this tankard, but rather just purchased it as a sales sample, I do not know the history, e.g., when made, for what occasion, etc. Judging from where it was found, I think that perhaps it is from the late 1990's. Whenever it was, the sample has never been used and is in pristine as new condition. I am assuming that the engraving, L.I.U. is for Long Island University. However, there appears to be a mascot above the name and I am unsure if that is in fact Long Island University's mascot. Perhaps someone in eBay land can enlighten me. As mentioned, the capacity is 16 ounces. The height is 5.25" and it is quite substantial, weighing over one pound. The handle is a four-finger style with a thumb top rest for ease of use.
